I have been receiving benefits prior to the lockdown, will this affect the payments?

No, beneficiaries who have been receiving benefit payments prior to the lockdown will continue to receive them without needing to go to the Labour Centre – provided the benefits have not been exhausted.

Will the UIF cope with all the new applications?

This shouldn’t be a problem. The online platform makes the administrative process much easier, so applications received online (if complete and accurate) won’t take long to fulfil.

The UIF receives assistance from institutions such as Banks, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC), and Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator to assist in simplifying the process.

Do employers who are not registered with UIF qualify for the relief benefit?

To date, more than 100,000 companies had applied to access UIF benefits and a total of R3.3 billion have been paid out.

A further 59,000 applications have been processed and 10,000 had been rejected for various errors – one of which is that the business failed to register with the UIF before the 15th March 2020.

Those who registered with the fund after this date are not eligible for the benefit.
