What is New?

If you didn’t pass your 2021 National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams, or you’re perhaps unhappy with your results, you may apply to rewrite certain examinations. You can also apply to have your exam paper re-marked or rechecked. Applications for re-marking and re-checking close on 4 February 2022.

Re-marking of exam papers

A remark means that your examination will be marked for a second time, while a recheck of your scripts is a further check to ensure that all questions are duly marked and that all marks are correctly calculated.

Who qualifies?

The Department of Education has numerous controls in place to ensure that the marking of NSC scripts is of very high quality.

How do I apply to have my exam remarked or rechecked?

NSC candidates who have a valid South African ID number can apply for the re-marking, re-checking and viewing of scripts using the online application or https://www.eservices.gov.za/tonkana/citizen/childeservices.jsf.  No manual applications for re-marking will be accepted, and there’s no re-marking of Common Assessment Task (CAT) for Life Orientation.

The payment for remarking and rechecking are as follows:

Remarking = R104 (per subject)
Rechecking = R25 (per subject)
Viewing of scripts (only after re-marking and rechecking) = R200 (per subject)
