Budgets, Compliance & Party Funding Internship @IECSouthAfrica

The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) invites applications for a Budgets, Compliance and Party Funding Internship opportunity at the National Office in Centurion. Twelve (12) months contract at R6, 150.00 per month.

Overview

The Intern: Compliance Verification and Party Funding will contribute towards the efficient co-ordination of compliance in the organization. The Intern reports to the Assistant Manager: Compliance Verification and Party Funding.

Responsibilities/Duties

General administrative support services for the Unit: Record, organise, store, capture and retrieve correspondence and data; Update registers and statistics; Handle routine enquiries; Make photocopies and receive or send facsimiles; Distribute documents/packages to various stakeholders as required; Keep and maintain the filing system for the office; Type basic letters and/or other correspondence when required; Keep and maintain the incoming and outgoing register of the unit; Coordinate logistics of meetings; manage stationery requirements.

Key performance areas: Assist Compliance Verification staff members with their duties whilst undertaking daily activities to learn about the basics of the unit portfolio, i.e. obtaining supporting documentation for contracts as well as performance indicator compliance verification processes and follow up on outstanding documents; Liaise with Legal, Finance and Procurement with regards to contracts; Complete and maintain a register of contracts submitted to Compliance Verification Unit.

Assist with selected duties so as to obtain exposure to Represented Political Parties Fund (RPPF), i.e.  opening new files for each political party for record keeping; Receive administration forms from political parties and record information in the database; Receive financial statements of political parties and make copies; Follow up with political parties on outstanding financial statements; Assist with the proof-reading of the RPPF annual report;  Assist with the distribution of the annual report to different stakeholders.

Requirements

The successful candidate for this position must have completed Matric / N3 and a tertiary qualification in Financial Management or related field.  The candidate must possess report writing and good communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills. The person must be computer literate with good working knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel. Applicants should have the following attributes: ability to work under pressure; be prepared to work long hours; pro-active and decisive.
